together as well as the beauty of the morning. I wasn't conscious of my intention to connect until I took a few minutes to reflect. At other times when I’ve gone around the lake, I had more of an attitude of getting my exercise done so that I could get on with the stuff on my to-do list. During those walks I missed the renewing power of the water and the deep connection to nature that rejuvenates our spirits. Being Present I also realized I was very present today. Sure, there were a few of those nagging thoughts in the back of my head about work. I wrestled with them for a bit and then let them go. I wanted to experience all that the morning had to offer. Water Bottles and Bike Locks This morning is one of the best, most memorable mornings of the summer so far. It didn’t cost anything—other than the donuts we bought on the way back. We didn’t have to pack to go somewhere. We didn’t need to do a lot of planning—just water bottles and bike locks. It didn’t take a lot of time. We just got on our bikes and rode along the water. It doesn’t get any easier than this. Three helpful questions I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal lately. This morning will definitely be in today’s entry. I learned of three helpful questions to use from Elda Dorothy whom I met at Mary Welch’s Serendipity Circle. The questions are: What inspired me today? What surprised me today? What delighted me today? I’ve tried gratitude journals before but had trouble sustaining the practice. These questions take me deeper and make gratitude a way of life for me. I find myself wondering throughout the day what will inspire, surprise and delight me. It’s proven to be a useful perspective from which to approach my day. An Opportunity As leaders, it’s so easy to get caught up in the crazy-busy, stress-filled work life that most of us lead. We have an opportunity (maybe even a responsibility) to find those things that bring us joy and rejuvenate our spirits. Then we can go back to work with a lighter perspective and a mind that is more positive and creative. What simple, enjoyable activity can you do today to connect with the people who are important to you—and the beauty in your life? Whatever you discover is probably right under your nose and in your neighborhood. Look with your heart and you’ll find it. Comments welcome! Share your thoughts! Have a great week!
